One of the great myths of leadership is the belief that leadership resides in power, status, titles, and authority. That only those in a position to lead can move others forward. If that were truly the case, everyone would be waiting for appointed leaders to show up. Not much would get done.
The truth is, everyone can make the choice to lead at any time.
Leadership resides in actions, messages, decisions, behaviors, and choices. Anytime someone acts to make people or situations better, they are leading. When someone on your team needs to be comforted, encouraged, or challenged and you comfort, encourage, or challenge, you are leading.
Leadership is always an expression and not a possession.
